I was greatly encouraged when I found out that I had won the U16 Short Story and U16 Poetry Award. I was never certain how a reader would react to my stylistic approach to narrative but I am glad that it has been recognised and even deemed worthy of winning! I put a lot of work into the creation of my winning sonnet ‘Cross’. I am overjoyed that all the work paid off. Poetry can be such a subjective category to judge and I thank my judge for choosing my work. Winning the award has fired me up to develop my writing and produce better and better pieces.
