Young Muslim Writers Awards 2010

Inspiring, supporting and nurturing the next generation of Muslim Writers.

What is YMWA?

At Muslim Writers Awards, we believe that the global Muslim Community has a unique discourse, which is fundamentally untapped. We also believe that to reap the successes of more Muslim writers in the future, we need to begin by inspiring and nurturing young people now.

Since the first Muslim Writers Awards back in 2006, we’ve been continually overwhelmed by the raw talent and enthusiasm of the Under 16s category. It was especially exciting for us when Humaira Rashid, winner of the Under 16s category in 2007, went on to win the adult category for Best Short Story in 2009 is now on the judging panel for YMWA.

Young Muslim Writers Awards (YMWA) is dedicated to supporting young wordsmiths, whose work deserves to be encouraged and celebrated in its own merit. Over the past year, in consultation with publishers, authors, Local Education Authorities, head-teachers and academics around the country, we’ve organised a series of events to help launch the event. Working with a diverse range of partners, our aim is to help provide mentoring and support for writers from as young as 8 through to 16.

When is the ceremony?

The first YMWA ceremony will be taking place on the afternoon of Wednesday 26th of May, at the Institute of English Studies (University of London) in Russel Square.
