Waseem Mahmood OBE
Waseem’s area of specialisation is media, public diplomacy and advising governments on Media policies. An accomplished award winning broadcaster he is currently engaged as a media consultant in the reconstruction of media in post war countries. He started his career as a producer at the BBC and worked across a whole range of programming genres in the General Programmes Department producing both the television and the radio output. He left the BBC in 1988 to set up a satellite subscription service for the British Asian community where he was appointed controller of programmes.
He was awarded an OBE in 2005 in Her Majesty’s New Year’s honours list “for services to the reconstruction of Media in post war countries”, and received the KAPPA award 2005 “for most outstanding contribution to media”. He was also nominated for the 2005 TSB Lloyds Bank Asian Jewel award “for his outstanding contribution to media” and for the 2002 MTV “Free your Mind Award” for his work in reconstructing the Afghanistani media. He is also author of the bestselling book , Good Morning Afghanistan which soon to be filmed.
